Built in 1660 the house you now see has a Victorian facade. In 1775 the grounds were laid out by Capability Brown in the style which became very popular at that time, creating an idealised countryside with sweeping vistas and picturesque ruins. There is a deer park, and a board walk through a marshy glade to a man made lake. This walk is accessible for wheel chair users. The house is owned by the national trust and is open to visitors.
